Starkville Community Market Progress

The Starkville Community Market, Starkville's very own local produce farmers market, is in the process of moving from it's original location on Lafayette Street to its new location on the corner of Lampkin Street and Jackson Street in Downtown Starkville. Special thanks to Andy Gaston of East Mississippi Lumber for allowing the market to use this new space for the ever expanding market!

Not only are we excited about the market moving, but there are huge improvements and construction going on as we speak to make this site perfect for market-goers. In the last few days, a steel pavilion, created and donated by Gulf States Manufacturing has been erected bearing the market name and logo.

In the coming days and weeks, volunteers, headed up by Dylan Karges, will continue to get the site ready for vendors. Drive by and check out the AMAZING progress they've made! Special thanks to Dylan for his tireless efforts and contribution to the community. Not only will this be the new market site, but this new space will also be available for residents and visitors of Starkville to hang out, eat lunch, enjoy the public arts installation that Dylan will be installing soon, and enjoy some hard to come by green space in our historic downtown.

Mark your calendars for a dedication ceremony for the new market location on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Much more info to come about the dedication ceremony and the market, which is scheduled to open May 15th.

Check out the pictures below to see the progress that our dedicated community volunteers and businesses have made! If you're interested in volunteering to help the crew clean-up this site, the next work-day is scheduled for Saturday, May 1st.
